DEVELOPMENT DIARY
Burst of ideas - a splurg
1) Players use sign language to interact with characters and environments - eg. sign left, the player moves left... characters could be real players in the world learning sign, too?
2) A character has things they must do and are instructed by someone remotely; but that person is speaking in a different language that the player is not told about, so they have to try and figure out meaning through the tone, and body language of a character, and seeing what gives them fail states and not? People are literally on the other side of the globe trying to complete tasks - never paired with someone who has a common language - Journey-type beat... don't know how this would work tbf
3) Playing an "it takes two" kinda thing but players are restricted to CNL?? Or an equivalent
4) Players explore a forgotten land in which mysterious wording covers the space - players must work out what happened to the space in order to return home... as the player explores, the wording becomes more and more comprehensible.
5) Players create their own language using sounds from the room they're in... are then paired with others to complete tasks > sounds will never be the same, the idea is that, hopefully, players will learn each others 'language' phonetically and successfully communicate, rather than having a guessing game.
6) documenting endangered languages? in the army?
7) teaching kids a language through fun games > Duolingo type beat but actually fun
8) trading at sea but ur stuck using seaspeak... one wrong move and its BOMBSSSS
9) combat type game where in which you don't understand the commander's language (at first?) with time, and with each successful decode, it becomes easier - it starts to make more sense very literally
10) players use CNL to move through an environment ("walk left" "stop" "pick up")
- a bit like the mobile game where people would scream > the louder you scream, the higher you jump
----> space team, co-op game > controls you have are related to what you can't see... bomb detonator online >
is the player just going to question "why do I not just have a controller?" > don't overcomplicate - use words to do something unexpected >
need to start understanding a language to pass through the game?
say left, nothing happens; slowly learn the fact language of the world (THROUGH EXPLORATION) and suddenly players are saying jibberish fluently and moving characters.
> ACTUALLY QUITE LIKE THIS?|
11) card came - parts of words on cards - put them together (like frube magnets) > conlag'
12) work out language of another race; give em what they want
13) player starts in blank room; the more they learn about a language, the more the room lights up??????
TASKS??? you keep saying tasks, and puzzles, WHAT ARE THESE? prototype!
